Senior Project Manager, Surface Transportation

We provide consulting services to government and private sector clients related to aviation, highway, rail, transit, industrial, construction, military, recreational, and entertainment projects. 

We have an immediate opening for a Senior Project Manager in either a remote-working position or based out of one of our offices.

This exciting position will provide support to our growing transportation planning and environmental practice.  Since our founding in 1981, HMMH had addressed noise, vibration, and air quality impacts from transportation systems across the country. This position will focus on supporting noise and vibration analyses specific to transit, railroads (passenger and freight), and highway projects; however, additional opportunities in other sectors are also a possibility such as supporting renewable energy projects. Assignments will include analysis of small local projects to major projects in metropolitan areas across the country. Since HMMH is a national leader in transportation environmental noise and vibration analysis you will be involved in some of the most interesting projects underway.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Using your quantitative data analysis skills to evaluate transportation noise and vibration impacts
  • Develop noise analysis in the FHWA’s Traffic Noise Model (TNM) and conducting transit and railroad noise and vibration analysis following the FTA Guidance Manual. 
  • Develop model inputs, running predictive models, and interpreting results
  • Communicate model data to technical and non-technical audiences
  • Conduct research on highway and transit/railroad noise and vibration analysis methods
  • Write proposals for large and complex projects
  • Write and review complex noise and/or vibration study reports
  • Successfully manage large projects from start to finish
  • Train staff on Project Management
  • Regularly supervise noise and vibration measurement programs
  • Regularly review and supervise staff members' noise and vibration modeling inputs and reports for QC purposes
  • Effectively partner with marketing and business development to aid in growing HMMH’s surface transportation business
  • Train staff on Business Development
  • Other duties as assigned

Minimum Requirements:

  • 10+ years of relevant experience.
  • Several years of experience with FHWA’s Traffic Noise Model (TNM), FTA noise and vibration impact analysis, and/or commercial noise modeling software
  • BA or BS in a technical field (acoustics, engineering, physics, math, or environmental sciences)
  • Strong quantitative, analytical, and communication skills
  • Attention to detail and ability to work on multiple projects effectively
  • Computer modeling experience
  • Strong writing skills, mainly focused on reporting technical information for the non-technical person
  • Ability to work both independently and within a project team
  • Willingness to travel occasionally (approximately 10%) for field measurements, conferences, and client meetings
  • Interest in participating in professional organizations to elevate HMMH’s profile in acoustics and environmental issues

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience utilizing GIS for data acquisition, analysis, and reporting functions
  • Knowledge of the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) and environmental regulatory programs
  • Data management and programing experience
