Since 1981, HMMH has been a trusted leader in studying, assessing, and mitigating the environmental impacts of transportation projects across aviation, highway, rail, transit, industrial, construction, military, recreational, and entertainment sectors. Our Aviation Environmental & Sustainability Group specializes in analyzing and resolving airport environmental challenges, supporting over 200 airports worldwide with noise and air quality studies, sustainability plans, mitigation strategies, environmental documentation, public engagement, and regulatory compliance.
We are seeking talented Consultants at all levels—Staff Consultant, Senior Consultant, Managing Consultant, Senior Managing Consultant, and Principal Consultant—to join our growing transportation planning and environmental practice. This is a remote or hybrid position, with the option of working in a hybrid work setting from any of our seven offices nationwide.
Position Overview
As a Consultant specializing in the FAA’s Aviation Environmental Design Tool (AEDT), you will play a key role in analyzing, evaluating, and addressing environmental impacts, with a focus on noise modeling for airport-related projects. You will leverage your expertise in AEDT to deliver high-quality noise and air quality analyses, contributing to or leading projects ranging from small-scale studies to complex, multi-disciplinary efforts. Candidates should have demonstrated experience using AEDT for both noise and air quality modeling and be comfortable with occasional travel for fieldwork, client visits, conferences, or business development activities. We welcome candidates with 2 to 12+ years of experience in AEDT or related environmental modeling, eager to grow their expertise in a collaborative, innovative environment aligned with SHRM best practices for inclusive and equitable hiring.
Key Responsibilities
(Responsibilities vary by level; candidates at all levels will engage with AEDT and environmental modeling tasks tailored to their experience.)
- Utilize AEDT to conduct detailed noise modeling, including developing precise model inputs using flight track data for generating noise contours and conducting other environmental studies.
- Conduct or lead AEDT-based analyses for noise (e.g., NEM updates, Noise Compatibility Program revisions) or air quality (e.g., emissions assessments under NEPA or state regulations), ensuring compliance with FAA and environmental standards.
- Perform fieldwork as needed, such as noise monitoring or data collection at airports, to support AEDT model validation and project accuracy.
- Travel occasionally for client meetings, industry conferences, or business development opportunities to build relationships and represent HMMH’s expertise.
- Prepare technical reports, deliverables, and presentations, effectively communicating complex noise findings to technical and non-technical audiences, including clients, stakeholders, and the public.
- Contribute to or manage projects of varying complexity, ensuring high-quality execution, timely delivery, and client satisfaction.
- Collaborate with teams, supervise subconsultants, or delegate tasks to staff, fostering technical growth and attention to detail.
- Engage with clients to discuss project progress, technical needs, and business development opportunities, contributing to or leading efforts to secure new work.
- Conduct or support research on aviation environmental and sustainability topics, designing studies or implementing research programs.
- Participate in or lead corporate initiatives, such as developing AEDT training materials or conducting internal training sessions.
- Represent HMMH in industry associations or external technical activities to enhance expertise and visibility in AEDT and aviation environmental analysis.
- Perform additional duties as needed to support team and company goals.
Minimum Qualifications
(Requirements are tailored to experience level)
- 2–12+ years of experience in environmental modeling, with specific expertise using AEDT for noise modeling in a consulting, aviation, or related field.
- Demonstrated proficiency in AEDT, including developing model inputs, running noise or air quality analyses, and interpreting results (level of independence varies by role).
- Bachelors or Masters in a technical field (e.g., aerospace/aviation, engineering, environmental sciences, physics, math, or related disciplines).
- Willingness to travel occasionally for fieldwork (e.g., noise monitoring, data collection), client visits, conferences, or business development activities.
- Strong quantitative and problem-solving abilities, with attention to detail and accuracy in noise or air quality analyses.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills to produce deliverables, proposals, and presentations for diverse audiences.
- Interpersonal skills to work effectively in teams, build client relationships, and engage with stakeholders.
- Experience contributing to or leading projects, with an understanding of scope, budget, and timeline (varies by level).
- Involvement in industry associations or technical activities is a plus, particularly for senior roles.
